Customer

Police Administration Office (PVA) Saxony

The Police Administration Office (PVA) is the central service provider for the Saxon police in the areas of technology, service, and logistics. With around 750 employees, the foundations for the successful work of police departments in the Free State of Saxony are laid here. The PVA's headquarters are located on Neuländer Straße in Dresden. Further locations can be found throughout Saxony, including in Chemnitz and Leipzig.

The challenge

Automation of complex IT deployment processes in a heterogeneous public sector landscape

In the Hybrid Cloud Management project, the Saxon Police Administration Office needed to transfer manual IT processes to a standardised automation platform, for example, in the provision of virtual servers, taking into account numerous stakeholders, systems, and security requirements.

A key challenge was the organisational alignment between knowledge holders, peripheral systems, and the authorisation and security concept, in order to create a consistent, automated end-to-end process while adhering to all compliance and security requirements.

Objective

Automation & Templates for Efficient Working

Standardisation and automation of manual IT processes

Through the introduction of an automation platform, hitherto manually performed steps – such as IP reservation, hostname assignment, or system connection – should be automated by over 90 % and sustainably standardised.

Provision of an intuitive self-service portal

Employees of the PVA should be able to independently request IT services via a central ordering portal – without in-depth technical know-how, but taking into account all security and compliance requirements.

Implementation of modular and scalable microservices

A modular architecture has created reusable workflows that can be flexibly extended and used for further use cases.

Results

Efficiency gains through consistent automation and knowledge transfer

With the productive launch of the self-service portal, the deployment time for virtual servers and the workload for staff have been reduced.

90%

The previously manually performed steps could be automated

2

Hours of provisioning time for virtual servers instead of days or weeks

750

Employees of the PVA will benefit from the self-service portal in the future
