Selenium Advanced – Scalable Test Automation with Grid & CI/CD

This training is aimed at advanced Selenium users who want to scale their test automation and integrate it professionally into CI/CD processes. The goal is to execute tests in parallel using a Selenium Grid, control build processes with Maven, and incorporate automated workflows into Jenkins pipelines. Participants will deepen their knowledge of Maven, project structure, dependency management, and environment variables. They will build their own Selenium Grid infrastructure – including a hub and nodes for different browsers – and learn to optionally containerise and scale it with Docker. Furthermore, integration into Jenkins pipelines will be implemented in a practical way. The training will be complemented by professional results reporting with TestNG and Extent Reports, as well as by proven techniques for efficient WebDriver management.

Contents at a glance

  • Theoretical foundations regarding the purposes, phases, and objectives of build management with Maven
  • Practical knowledge of the structure and targeted manipulation of the project object model
  • Management of dependencies, plugins, and environment variables

  • Parallel Test Execution with Selenium Grid
  • Setting up a Selenium Hub and two Selenium Servers for Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox
  • Implementation and scaling using container virtualisation (e.g. with Docker)
  • Expansion of Selenium test cases to the required RemoteWebDriver and automated execution via the Selenium Grid architecture

  • Integration of test cases into CI/CD processes for fully automated, time- or event-driven test execution
  • Integrating your Selenium tests into a Jenkins pipeline and corresponding customisation options
  • Integration directly via the Jenkins web interface or alternatively creation via a pipeline script
  • Script administration in the source code management repository

Results Reporting

  • Enhancement of TestNG's basic reporting according to your requirements
  • Getting to know and practically creating Extent Reports

WebDriver Management

  • Tried and tested techniques for optimising WebDriver management
  • Management and updating of browser-specific WebDriver
