Success Story

Development of a vehicle simulation platform at the BMW Group

accompio built a vehicle simulation platform that enables the data transport for the simulation data from Germany to the future target systems in Shenyang (PR China).

Customer

BMW Group

With its BMW, MINI, Rolls-Royce and BMW Motorrad brands, the BMW Group is the world's leading premium manufacturer of automobiles and motorbikes and provider of premium financial services. The BMW Group production network comprises over 30 production locations worldwide; the company has a global sales network with representatives in over 140 countries.

The challenge

Data transport for information with high protection requirements

At accompio PrimeTec (formerly proficom GmbH), information security processes were expanded early on and further strengthened by the requirements of TISAX certification, which was achieved within a few months. At the same time, the establishment of new systems and the integration of existing platforms created technical and organisational challenges.

The project was completely reorganised at the Shenyang site, including systems for simulation data management and data transfer. Company guidelines, government regulations for data exchange between Germany and China as well as cultural differences and time differences make collaboration difficult.

Objective

Development of a holistic system architecture

Establishing efficient cross-location collaboration

The use of JIRA, Confluence and Microsoft Teams enables transparent and structured collaboration between the German and Chinese project teams. Clear communication channels and documented processes support the success of the project.

Ensure iterative releases and continuous development

New features are regularly developed and published using an agile sprint structure. This has enabled the platform to be gradually expanded to include bidirectional data synchronisation.

Building a scalable and future-proof system architecture

A service-orientated architecture based on Node.js and scalable OpenShift services ensures that the platform is prepared for growing data volumes and increasing system complexity.

Anchoring holistic quality assurance from the outset

The combination of manual testing and test automation ensures stable functions at unit, integration and system level. Tools such as JIRA X-Ray and ALM Octane support test management.

Systematically strengthen automation and non-functional requirements

Tools such as UFT Developer, REST-assured, LoadRunner, Performance Centre and Fortify enable functional, performance and security tests. This means that quality and security requirements are taken into account at an early stage.

Promote CI/CD and cross-team transparency

With Jenkins as the central CI/CD server, tests, web services and data synchronisation are controlled automatically. Open exchange formats such as coffee meetings also promote collaboration within the team.

Results

Success through team strength, agility and bundled expertise

The combination of close collaboration, agile methods and diverse technical expertise enables the team to master complex project requirements in an efficient, structured and sustainable manner.
