Our technology forum: extract – IT meets eMotion

Under the motto “IT meets eMotion”, around 120 participants met at the Gläserne Manufaktur Dresden on April 20, 2023 to discuss the latest IT trends in the areas of DevOps, automation and security at our “extract” event format.

The event setup

It is no coincidence that the Gläserne Manufaktur in Dresden was chosen as the location. The factory has undergone several transformations in recent years: from the Phaeton to the e.Golf to the ID.3; from the combustion engine to electromobility. Change and transformation are also major and present topics in the IT world, which is why the Gläserne Manufaktur, in conjunction with its world of experience, is a clear match for the perfect location for “extract – IT meets eMotion”.

In our event set-up, we were able to cover a wide range of industries, from automotive to semiconductors to insurance, both in terms of participants and in the day’s presentations. We were joined as hosts by mod IT Service GmbH from Einbeck and Schmitz RZ Consult GmbH from Pulheim near Cologne, the two other partners in our group of companies.

On behalf of the three companies, Frank Krug, Michael Lötzsch and Thomas Jähnig from the management of proficom GmbH opened the day and thus gave the starting signal for an exciting event.

The focus was on the exchange between IT experts.

120 participants attended the Technology Forum on April 20, 2023 in Dresden.

Presentations, demos and networking

The focus was on the exchange and networking of all IT experts present. This idea was underpinned and promoted by ten specialist presentations, which took place in parallel on the ID.Floor and in the ID.Studio. With four presentations, we were able to showcase part of the portfolio of our group of companies.

  • Sebastian Brabetz (mod IT Services GmbH) looked to the future with fully automated penetration tests and his colleague Philipp Kellner took up the hot topic of artificial intelligence and showed how it can be integrated into service management.
  • Björn Albers and Stefan Schröder (Schmitz RZ Consult GmbH) presented how automated backup monitoring can be realized with their product BACKUP EAGLE®.
  • Martin Fischer (proficom GmbH) had his little Container 1×1 with him on the day and shed light on the technical basics and the historical development of the technology.

Martin Fischer (proficom) spoke about the little container 1×1

Sebastian Brabetz (mod IT) shed light on the topic of penetration testing.

We are particularly proud that we have been able to attract numerous customers to appear as speakers themselves.

  • René Te-Strote (BMW Group) and Lilly Wüst (proficom GmbH) used concrete examples to show how the BMW Group is making the development process more measurable in the area of value stream management and deriving measures for increasing efficiency from the findings.
  • Bernd Schindelasch (EWE TEL GmbH) reported on his personal experience of breaking up complex monoliths into many flexible services.
  • Alexander Burkard (HUK Versicherungen) addressed the topic of “agility”, a very present theme in the way self-organized teams work, and shed light on why it is important for a company to be an agile competitor.
  • Dag Dammann (CLOUD&HEAT Technologies GmbH) gave an insight into an EU-sovereign cloud strategy and analyzed how modern tools can be used to operate the life cycle of an application in the cloud.
  • Oliver Konrad (eurodata AG) highlighted the tension between agility and standards and answered the question of whether the worlds of fixed rules and agile software development can be reconciled.
  • Yupak Satsrisakul and David Zimara (Endress+Hauser InfoServe GmbH) looked to the future and described the current journey from manual to automated testing.

Alexander Burkard (HUK Versicherungen) spoke about agility in competition.

Dag Dammann (CLOUD&HEAT) presented a superior cloud strategy.

During the breaks, participants were able to network with each other, engage in lively conversations and discuss the content of the presentations with the speakers. This relaxed networking atmosphere was framed by the demo stands of our three event sponsors. Open Text (formerly Micro Focus) and Matrix42 were each represented as premium partners with a stand and presented their portfolio. In the competition at the Open Text stand, one participant was able to win a Lego set. There was also a lot of activity at the stand of our Advanced Partner Dynatrace, which was looked after by our colleague Christoph Richter on this day. We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for enriching our event with your presence.

Creating experiences and arousing emotions

Throughout the day, numerous curious glances from our participants wandered through the Transparent Factory. The show cars and insights into the production process at the Gläserne Manufaktur did not fail to impress, and the 45-minute guided tours of the location were also met with great interest. At the same time, Patrick Latus and Sebastian Brabetz (mod IT Services GmbH) used their OT system to demonstrate how easy it is to hack industrial systems and, of course, had tips and advice on how to avoid these attacks.

Above the rooftops of Dresden

With so many conversations about change and transformation, the weather gods decided to swap the rain clouds for a little sun in the afternoon, creating the perfect conditions to spend the evening together in further discussions. On the roof terrace of the “Felix” in the Lebendiges Haus in the heart of Dresden’s city center, various small groups of people quickly formed, where the transitions between professional and private topics were very fluid.

Memorable emotions and experiences.

After the Expert Day last September, we were able to set a real exclamation mark with our second joint customer event for the Group. The mix of specialist presentations, plenty of room for discussions and the supporting program created exactly the dynamic and atmosphere on the day of the event that we wanted when we started planning over eight months ago. The feedback from the participants and our own experiences on the day have given us a big green tick behind the motto “IT meets eMotion” ✅.
