In 2017, Uelzener Versicherungen decided to renew its internal policy system with a software solution developed in Java in order to take advantage of extensive customization options. We, proficom GmbH, were commissioned to introduce test automation and set up a framework and infrastructure to reduce the manual testing effort.

First, manual tests for insurance contracts were revised and described in detail. Technologically, the system is based on JavaFX, which is why the test automation was implemented in Java with Maven and Jenkins. The proprietary framework Oryon was used. Variable data for contract systems was stored in a MySQL database and integrated into test classes. A Docker container enabled the parallel execution of tests on several build agents, allowing around 100 test cases to be executed per hour.

In addition, a document checking mechanism was developed that recognizes deviations in contract-relevant documents. Automation was extended to web portals using Selenium. In five years, over 2080 test cases have been automated, significantly increasing efficiency and saving three weeks of manual testing per test phase.
